What is the “Improv for Stage”?
“Improv for the Stage” is a mixed-level improv
course focusing on short-form improvisation games performed for a live
audience. This course is perfect for beginners who
want to explore the fundamentals of improvisational theatre in a fun,
supportive environment. “Improv for Stage” is also designed to
challenge those who already have a foundation of improvisational techniques and
want to enhance their performance abilities.
Course Format:
“Improv for Stage” consists of weekly 2-hour
sessions over 8 weeks. Each session will include a combination of warm-ups,
skill-building exercises, and performance practice. Topics include:
● Improv Principles: Understand
the core concepts of improv, including the “Yes, and” philosophy, active
listening, and supporting your scene partners.
● Scene Building: Gain
techniques for establishing strong scenes, including setting, relationships,
and objectives.
● Storytelling Techniques: Learn how
to build and sustain a narrative, keeping your audience captivated from
beginning to end.
● Physicality and Space Work: Explore the
use of body language, movement, and spatial awareness to enrich your performance.
● Teamwork and Collaboration: Develop
skills to work harmoniously with others,
enhancing your ability to think on your feet and adapt to any situation. The final
evening of the workshop includes an Invited Sharing/Performance.
Prerequisites:
No prior improv or acting experience is required.
This class is open to anyone with a willingness to participate and have fun.

Hightower
is an American performer,
director, and teaching artist who has recently relocated to Aarhus. William is
a graduate of Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the
Arts and has 15+ years of experience performing for the stage and screen,
teaching acting, directing improvisation, facilitating arts programs, narrating
audiobooks, and developing immersive performances for audiences.
